LOST CROSS
Davies gives the following report of a cross base at Coningsby:
Village Cross – The base of an old cross is to be seen in a public house yard at the east end of the village. The stone is a large plain block and rather rough, but it deserves more prominent position than given to it at present.
It is not known to which pub Davies is referring and there are no modern reports of the stone.
There is an intriguing report in the Lincolnshire Chronicle of 1855 which mentions a cross in Coningsby market place (see below), but confuses it with an Eleanor Cross.
