The churchyard cross at Blyton is a tiny little thing – it would be easy to miss it if you weren’t searching for it – but just in the right place to the south and slightly east of the south door. There is a little stump of a shaft standing just 0.25m high. It is firmly set in its buried socket stone – we could just see the socket stone – 0.15m – 0.20m of it were visible on the west, south and east sides (buried on the north) – Not really sure if we could see its edges, and it is probably bigger than it looks. The stump of shaft is rectangular section (0.3m x 0.25m approx) eroded at its base where it meets the socket stone. (Although the scheduling description says it is octagonal).
