There is a standing cross in the churchyard of St Mary’s church, about 6m south east of the south porch. A portion of the shaft is visible, but the socket stone is buried.

AP investigated part of the top of the socket stone (which was about 30mm below the surface) and found it to be about 0.75m square with a pitted and uneven surface. The socket is central and 0.31m N-S by 0.28m E-W

The shaft appears to be fastened into the socket with an iron band. It has broach stops, and tapers in octagonal section to a height of 1.02m. At the top of the stone, which is flat, are the remains of an iron pin and clamps (with lead fixings) which presumably fixed this part of the shaft to an upper shaft.
