It seems that Mavis Enderby cross was restored from just a 1.11m section of surviving cross shaft. It is the base section of the shaft, 0.3m square, rising through stopped chamfers to a tapering octagonal form.

Davies comments that the socket stone  (0.82m square with chamfered top edge) is modern and that the upper parts of the cross were restored with a gabled crucifix as a copy of the nearby Somersby cross.

Much of the church was heavily restored by C H Fowler in the 1870s and it seems likely that the cross was restored at this time.

Mavis Enderby – only the lower part of the shaft is thought to be medieval – all the rest, including the socket stone , is modern
