A battered fragment of shaft survives at Farlesthorpe – We struggled to find it as the churchyard was overgrown, but eventually located it 15m south of the W porch of the church at the top of a slope. It is a fragment of octagonal cross shaft – no base visible. The shaft was 18 cms (across) octagonal and there were 4 dowel holes in its upper surface.

There was 0.69m of it above ground but it was in much damaged state – none of the visible bit was still octagonal. Hilary thought she could see faint carvings on N and S surfaces and did a sketch. D S Davies had commented that he thought he could see carvings on the stone.
