Churchyard cross about 12m south of St Helen’s church, Brigsley. There is a cross base with fragment of shaft surviving (overall height c. 1.5m). The base stands on some stone but there are no steps. The base is nearly square 0.71m (E-W) by 0.69m (N-S) with corners cut to octagonal and pointed stops. The cross base/socket stone is c.0.45m high.
The shaft is set in a lead-lined socket. It is 0.30m (E-W) by 0.28m (N-S) and has a high (C 0.4m) chamfer to octagonal. The surviving shaft is 1.11m tall. On its top surface there are five dowel holes (sundial mount?). There is a shape/device (possibly a key – or initials) carved into the East face, which Hilary sketched (see field notes and photo).
