There is just a cross base at Friesthorpe, about  5m south of the south door of St Peter’s church. It is c. 0.63 x 0.60m with simple chamfer on the upper edge. There is about 0.24m of it visible above ground. The socket is rectangular (0.21 x 0.23m) and is lined with lead. There is actually a fragment of shaft still in the very base of the socket.

The fragment of shaft and the lead lining can be seen in this photo (A Peach, 1994)
